For some reasons it seems that the weirdest records we came across recently were all coming from Australia… This one is no exception. Released in 1989, If Its Not On Its Not On is an experimental collage of field recordings, extracts from musical pieces and spoken word by Australian artist Sherre DeLys. The name of the « band » seems to be a reference to the cartesian feminist theory of the same name, while DeLys’s text on In A Certain Position is all about woman’s right to have sexual pleasure. If Its Not On Its Not On is a nice example of how engaged experimental music could be in the 1980’s.
