One of the most rewarding feelings about looking after records may not be founding one of those « holy grails » in a 1€ bin (though we have to admit that it is a pretty cool feeling), but rather buying a record because there’s something on the cover that appeals to you, making a few euros bet, and discovering once you get home that this record is actually pretty good!
Well, that Tony Hymas record was a very nice surprise, as we discovered that it was very good from beginning to end (and this kind of records are scarcer than you might think, trust us) with many stand-out tunes. We picked Pictures Of Departure, from the Vocal Side for it belongs to this – unfortunately, meagre – corpus of « Experimental Pop » tracks that we love : Spoken word, minimal production, and a super catchy refrain sung by a nagging female voice.
We can’t resist the way the song is building up to this devastating refrain for two minutes, and we bet that you won’t resist it neither…
